about

Press:

No matter the style, each song is built around Greg's extremely skilled finger picked melodies that showcase a talent that deserves to be heard outside of Knoxville.
--Nelson Gullet, A Fifty Cent Lighter and a Whiskey Buzz blog, 3/24/10

It’s a resolutely modern folk record...it draws on a vast catalog of influences...and turns them into something that reflects all of them but isn’t any one of them in particular.
--Mathew Everett, Metro Pulse, 1/19/10

With "Basically Sane," Horne channels a number of roots-music masters, from the throaty baritone of Sam Bush to Chesnutt's lyricism to the humor and heart of classics by John Prine. And there's a reason those artists find their influences wafting through the songs on "Basically Sane" -- the same benchmark of success they apply to their songs is similar to the one used by Horne for his own.
--Steve Wildsmith, The Daily TImes (Maryville, TN) 1/21/10

Original Liner Notes:

This album was made in between. In between dog barks and coal train horns, in between sirens and the neighbor kids' pooltime. In between guitar lessons and other people's records. In between a proposal and a wedding. In the attic between the kitchen and the roof. It took a lot longer than I wanted or imagined. some of these songs are young, and some ahve done me well for a very long time. I hope they treat you well, too.

These songs were recorded at home in Knoxville, TN in 2008 and 2009. The vocals and guitar were performed together with no overdubs. You'll hear two different guitars, a 2003 Gibson Songwriter, and a 1952 Gibson LG-2. "Well Groomed Man" was recorded at Grinning Deer, Knoxville, TN>
